‘Facing Reality’: This ‘duomo’ pot portrays a significant episode in European history that occurred in 1623 which illustrates the human propensity to want to believe in illusion rather than face reality and truth, in order to keep control. It is especially relevant now.
The white lantern tower represents truth and reality. Below the cross of Christianity is transformed by a weapon, representing the militant counter reformation. Below that the story of Galileo: his family coat of arms, then his invention the telescope, through which he observed the reality of the sun and the planets, the solar system.
